Tasting notes
Alión 2019 is a powerful, concentrated and sensual Ribera del Duero, displaying intense aromas of ripe black plum, black cherry and dark berries alongside violet, graphite, balsamic notes, coffee, cocoa and subtle spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied, rich and juicy, with impressive concentration and firm yet beautifully polished, velvety tannins. Despite the power of the warm and dry 2019 vintage, the wine retains freshness and precision, with layers of ripe dark fruit, mineral notes and finely integrated oak leading into a very long, focused and elegant finish. Made from 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) from vineyards averaging 39 years of age in Padilla de Duero, Valbuena de Duero and Pesquera de Duero, Alión 2019 combines the depth and structure of Ribera del Duero with the refinement characteristic of the Vega Sicilia family. Production comprised 256,526 standard bottles, 7,005 Magnums, 608 Double Magnums, 80 Imperials and 5 Salmanazars. Drinking window: now to approximately 2041, with James Suckling suggesting it is particularly rewarding from 2025 onward. Serve at approximately 18°C; when enjoyed young, decanting for around 1–2 hours is recommended.
